Todd Spitzer and Deborah Pauly will be speaking tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Hewes Middle School, 13232 Hewes Ave., North Tustin. The Orange County Register reported that as a direct result of a January candidate forum, three of Pauly’s council colleagues endorsed Spitzer. Each time Spitzer and Pauly appear in public together, Spitzer gains more supporters.
Fortunately for Pauly, there’s few people left who haven’t endorsed Spitzer, so there could be little support left to lose.

Here is part 6 in this 7 part series that is going out this week on the blog.

This Assembly district is currently represented by Assemblyman Don Wagner and represents a chunk of North Orange County along with a large slice of Irvine. With that being said here is the break-down of who has pulled papers:
Ken L. Williams Jr.– He is currently an elected member of the Orange County Board of Education and a past member of the OC GOP Central Committee.
Noel Stone Parrish– I could be mixing her up with somebody else but it appears that she is a former resident of Los Angeles County who moved to Orange County.
Todd Spitzer– He is currently a candidate for Orange County Supervisor in the 3rd District and an elected member to the OC GOP Central Committee. *incumbent.
Marcia Gilchrist– She has been a solid voice in Republican politics for a long time including her service as an elected member of the OC GOP Central Committee. *Incumbent.
Deborah Pauly– She is currently a member of the Villa Park City Council and Vice Chair of the OC GOP. Also she is rumored to possibly be running for Supervisor against Todd Spitzer. *Incumbent.
Chris Emami– I don’t know for sure whether or not I will be running.
Walter H. Myers III– He is someone who I consider to be a friend and he is also a very solid Republican as well. We are clearly rooting for our fellow blogger here at OC Political to win.
Lynn Schott– She is currently an elected member of the OC GOP Central Committee. It might be just me, but she comes across as angry all the time.
Nick Wilson– He is currently a Tea Party Republican who is running for a second time for this Central Committee seat after a tough loss in 2010.
Denis Bilodeau– He is currently an elected member of the Orange City Council and Orange County Water district. He was recently appointed to the OC GOP Central Committee. *Incumbent.
Ray Grangoff– Currently a member of Supervisor Pat Bates staff and also an elected member of the OC GOP Central Committee. *Incumbent.
Scott “Scotty” Voigts– A current elected member of the Lake Forest City Council and also a member of Assemblyman Don Wagner’s staff.

One of the most telling signs that Deborah Pauly is bending under pressure to Todd Spitzer’s steamroller of a campaign can be found in the candidate filing log from the Registrar of Voters. You can see the financial numbers from this race in this post by one of my colleagues on this blog.
Yesterday, Pauly filed all of her candidate filing paperwork for Central Committee in the 68th District, including her Ballot Designation Worksheet and her Declaration of Candidacy form. (She is using “Councilwoman, City of Villa Park” as her ballot designation, by the way.)
In the 3rd Supervisorial District race, she has pulled neither the Ballot Designation Worksheet nor her Declaration of Candidacy form. Why didn’t she at least pull those papers while at the Registrar of Voters when she filed those two forms for Central Committee?
Considering both forms are quite brief, why didn’t she file them for both offices? Furthermore, shouldn’t a candidate for two offices file for the race that’s their top priority first? Like Pauly, Spitzer is also running for both Supervisor and Central Committee, but Spitzer has filed all of his candidate filing paperwork for Supervisor.
It’s becoming clear Deborah Pauly is not long for this supervisorial race.

Orange County Assemblyman Chris Norby Endorses Spitzer for Supervisor
(ORANGE COUNTY, CA) Todd Spitzer’s campaign for 3rd District Supervisor announced the endorsement of Assemblyman Chris Norby today. Before being elected to the State Assembly, Chris Norby served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors for seven years representing Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Buena Park and Anaheim.
In his endorsement Assemblyman Norby cited Spitzer’s long-standing conservative principles as reason for endorsing. “I have known Todd for 20 years, since he first served as a school board member at Brea Olinda Unified where I taught high school,” said Norby. “I have the utmost respect for his fiscally conservative principles and I look forward to working with him on behalf of our Orange County community.”
Additionally, Spitzer recently picked up the endorsement of Orange County Senator Mark Wyland adding to Spitzer’s long list of legislative leaders that have endorsed him. A full list of endorsements can be found at www.ToddSpitzer.com.
In addition to his 20 years of public service, Todd Spitzer’s passion and small local business is dedicated to legal representation of businesses and crime victims under Marsy’s Law, a Statewide Initiative he served as campaign manager of. Spitzer’s public service includes his time as Assistant District Attorney, Orange County Supervisor and State Assemblyman. He currently lives in Orange with his wife Jamie, and their two children.

Compared to most Democrats who had Kinde Durkee as their treasurer, Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang actually fared pretty well (Irvine is the largest city in the new 45th Congressional District, and Kang is a directly-elected mayor). Kang raised $289,398 and spent $35,715 (for those looking at the FEC summary sheet, please note these figures account for a $1,000 refund), only $188,523 was frozen by the LA County Superior Court, pending resolution of the Kinde Durkee case. He reports $189,559 cash on hand. (I realize the math doesn’t seem to add up, but this is what’s on his FEC report.) Kang’s best case scenario is he has all his money. His worst case scenario is he gets none of the cash back, but that’s only 40% of what he’s raised compared to the wipe-out Jose Solorio and Lou Correa suffered.
Unfortunately, for Kang, even if he gets all of that money back, incumbent Republican Congressman John Campbell‘s $1,096,043 warchest still dwarfs Kang’s. Not only that, Congressional finance disclosures indicate Campbell is California’s fourth wealthiest member of the House (behind only Darrell Issa, Nancy Pelosi, and Gary Miller), with a net worth between $8-$33 million. (Including both houses of Congress, Senator Dianne Feinstein comes in ahead of Pelosi but behind Issa). When Durkee embezzled $4.6 million from Feinstein’s re-election, the Senator loaned her campaign $5 million. Needless to say, fantastically wealthy members of Congress can easily drop millions into their campaigns if they feel the need.
In the comparison of remarkably similar warchests, Todd Spitzer has $2,988 more cash on hand than John Campbell.
Republican challenger John Webb raised $23,047 and loaned himself an additional $3,200, but has already spent $23,786, leaving himself $2,460 cash on hand before accounting for debts (I assume the $1 differential on the math is due to rounding on his report).
For people wondering, the Registrar of Voters reports a 16.9% Republican registration advantage in this district. Despite a challenge from the right and a challenge by the mayor of the district’s largest city from the left, John Campbell will still cruise to re-election.

I am prepared to see Todd Spitzer give Deborah Pauly a little sweet chin music this election, and someone pointed out something very interesting to me about Todd and his committee. Deborah Pauly has an incredible $1,250, which is enough to spend 1/3 of a cent per voter (how would that work?), while Todd Spitzer has over $1,000,000.
If you look closely at his report though you will find that Todd gained a lot of interest on the bank account holding his campaign warchest: about $64,000 of it. This is almost 60 times what Pauly has in her campaign account. While Shirley Grindle is currently busy going after Susan Schroeder, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her propose a new campaign finance law that would outlaw bank account interest.
$64,000 will certainly buy a lot of mail, and it will be awfully hard to combat with Spitzer when the bank interest he accrues could fund an entire campaign on its own. This could become very fun to watch.
