Taxin Troy Edgar

Posted by OC Insider on June 2, 2012

Today, I received another great mail piece from Travis Allen for Assembly.   This is the first hit piece that I received from Travis and I have to say it is probably the best hit piece have seen this cycle.

The image of Taxin Troy Edgar is definitely going to stick in my mind.  I am attaching a scan of the piece to this post for people to check out.

Will this mail piece be enough to make the race competitive?  I am not sure, but I a bet a lot of voters will have a picture of Taxin Troy Edgar in their heads when they vote on Tuesday.

Also, it looks like Travis has found one of Troy’s real weaknesses.  Edgar’s horrible voting record on taxes and his refusal to sign the No New Tax Pledge might hunt him on Tuesday.

Here is a LINK to a Press Release that OC-Breeze posted about Edgar’s refusal to sign the No New Tax Pledge.

Public Safety Slate Mailer Controversy

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on June 1, 2012

Ironically enough I was intending to post this slate mailer over the weekend, but due to a press release just issued by the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to post this.

In my mailbox this week I received the California Public Safety Voter Guide. It was another well done slate from Landslide Communications and Jim Lacy. It appears that the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association is not that thrilled to see the use of a firefighter on the front of the piece.

Here is the slate mailer:

The following is the press release just issued by the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association:

The Orange County Professional Firefighters Association has become aware of a slate mailer titled the California Public Safety Newsletter and Voter Guide (see attached). The mailer features a prominent image of a firefighter engaged in firefighting operations. As the largest public safety firefighting organization in Orange County, the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association was surprised by the depiction of firefighters on the mailer alongside prominent conservative candidates who have previously opposed organizations representing the men and women who serve in fire and emergency services. Our organization is hopeful this mailer signals the end of vitriolic attacks on firefighters and other public safety employees, and we are pleased to accept the support of prominent conservative individuals such as former CRP Executive Committee member Jon Fleischman and current State Assemblymember Allan Mansoor. We look forward to the support of such prominent individuals within the conservative movement as the union representing the 950 men and women protecting 24 cities with a population of 1.7 million citizens. As the County of Orange enters what could potentially be a difficult fire season, the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association would like to confirm that conservatives such as Mr. Fleischman and others supported by the California Public Safety Newsletter and Voter Guide will, in the future, support public safety issues relating to fire protection, including:

1. Support funding to keep current staffing levels at John Wayne Airport, as well as the OCFA Handcrew Program that is slated to be curtailed at the end of current calendar year.

2. Support the 36 firefighter positions that were recommended but never adopted by the OCFA’s After Action report after the devastating firestorms of 2007 and 2008.

The Orange County Professional Firefighters Association is an issue based organization that enthusiastically accepts support from individuals regardless of their political affiliation. We are hopeful this mailer signals real support among conservatives in Orange County – and not just political posturing — and that we will be able to count on them to help advance our goals of improving the public safety of all Orange County citizens.

Where is Orly Taitz’s Naturalization Certificate?

Posted by Chris Nguyen on June 1, 2012

Happy Friday, readers!  Today, we’ll take a look at a rather under-covered issue in this year’s U.S. Senate race.

Back in April 2011, Barack Obama released his birth certificate.  Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Mitt Romney released his birth certificate.

Birth Certificates for Barack Obama & Mitt Romney

Barack Obama’s birth certificate (left) and Mitt Romney’s birth certificate (right)

These birth certificates indicate that Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii while Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan.  The documents also state that Obama’s mother was born in Kansas while Romney’s mother was born in Utah.  These certificates also show that Obama’s father was born in the foreign country of Kenya while Romney’s father was born in the foreign country of Mexico.

Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution requires:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

So only a natural born citizen can be President of the United States.

U.S. Senate candidate Orly Taitz has repeatedly launched lawsuits challenging the authenticity of Obama’s birth certificate and asserting that Obama is not a natural born citizen.

Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution requires:

No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

Taitz freely states that she was born in the former Soviet Union in present-day Moldova.  She claims she became a naturalized citizen in 1992.  However, she has never released her naturalization certificate.

Obama and Romney have released their birth certificates, yet Taitz has not released her naturalization certificate.  If she were simply a private citizen, she’d have no obligation to do so, but now that she is running for the United States Senate, should it not be incumbent upon her to prove that she meets the constitutional requirements to become a U.S. Senator?

If she is a properly-naturalized citizen, then Taitz should just release her naturalization certificate.  Why hasn’t she released her naturalization certificate?  Does she have something to hide?

Two Bloggers Suspended from OC Political

Posted by Chris Nguyen on June 1, 2012

Third Supervisorial District Candidates

The two candidates for the Third Supervisorial District who were the subjects of the blog posts by HBK and The Rock of OC

Well, you’ve likely seen the two immediately prior posts, one each from HBK and The Rock of OC.  We had warned HBK and The Rock of OC to refrain from posting their propagandistic blogs regarding the Third Supervisorial District.  We had urged them to post about things that were outside the scope of the Third Supervisorial District contest, as those two bloggers had been using their posts simply to promote their favorite supervisorial candidate and attack that candidate’s opponent.

They have been unable to post about things outside of their propaganda relating to the Third Supervisorial District race and have abused the privilege of blogging here.

In light of their inability to restrain themselves, we have decided to take the extraordinary step of suspending those two bloggers.  They have lost their ability to post on this blog until June 6, the day after the Third Supervisorial District election is over.

Special-Interest Spitzer Uses $17,000 in Union Money to Attack Pauly

Posted by The Rock of OC on June 1, 2012

The Chrises told me to back off of the Third Supervisorial District, and they’d get HBK to back off.  Since HBK broke that agreement, I’m coming back in.

Before Chuck DeVore left the Supervisor’s race, leaving Deborah Pauly to fill the conservative void, DeVore produced this commercial revealing Todd Spitzer’s $54,000 in union money from the AFL-CIO, Teamsters, and CTA.  Special-Interest Spitzer put all that union money in Spitzer for Central Committee.

Spitzer then used the $17,000 from Spitzer for Central Committee to create a hit piece attacking Pauly and her husband.  It’s clear Spitzer used union money to attack Pauly.

Here’s the video from DeVore revealing Spitzer’s $54,000 in union money.  The “slush fund” DeVore referenced is Spitzer for Central Committee.

Pauly Bashes Carona Supporters Unless They Donate to Her Campaign

Posted by HBK on May 31, 2012

I want you all to know that I tried to stay away from the blog. I really did. Nguyen and Emami begged me to blog about something other than the 3rd District Supervisors race, Deborah Pauly just made me have to jump back on here with some of her latest hypocrisy. I promise to keep it short and not go on some sort of long diatribe.

Deborah Pauly loves to rail on the corruption that was rampant in the Republican Party during the process of the Carona endorsement back in 2004. I actually agree with her on this particular point, however, she then proceeds to link Todd Spitzer to the evil Carona regime.

Pauly failed to mention one of her largest donors is Mike Schroeder the spokesman for Mike Carona. Through the course of the entire election Pauly has raised $23,468 and $1,800 of that amount comes from Mike Schroeder. That means that over 7.5% of her entire campaign funding comes from former Carona spokesperson Mike Schroeder.

Dare I say, hypocrisy?

I promise that this will be my last post on this issue, and I look forward to writing about other issues that are going on throughout the County soon.

Buena Park Councilman Charged With Perjury

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on May 30, 2012

In a disappointing news release that just went out from the office of District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, it has been announced that Buena Park Councilman Miller Oh has been charged with six felony counts of perjury. This stems as a result of him allegedly using fraudulent information on DMV documents to get out of paying for child support. OC Political readers should know that we understand he is innocent until proven guilty, but this certainly does not look good.

Here is the press release:

BUENA PARK CITY COUNCIL MEMBER CHARGED WITH DMV DOCUMENT PERJURY TO AVOID CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS

SANTA ANA – A Buena Park City Council Member has been charged with repeatedly committing perjury on California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) documents to avoid paying child support to his ex-wife. Sangjin Miller Oh, 48, is charged with six felony counts of perjury by declaration and faces a maximum sentence of six years and four months in state prison if convicted. Oh will be arraigned on the charges at a later date to be determined.

Between Sept. 23, 2004, and July 20, 2009, Oh is accused of committing perjury on six occasions by signing official DMV documents using fraudulent information. The defendant is accused of committing this crime with the intention of avoiding child support payments to his ex-wife by hiding his assets under his false name.

On one occasion, Oh is accused of applying for a driver’s license under the name Robert Oh and fraudulently failing to disclose that he had previously applied for a license under a different name, as required by law. On another occasion, Oh is accused of fraudulently failing to disclose that his license had previously been suspended. On four other occasions, Oh is accused of using his fraudulently obtained license to register vehicles.

This case was investigated by the DMV, Orange County District Attorney’s Office, and Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General.

Senior Deputy District Attorney John Christl of the Special Prosecutions Unit is prosecuting this case.

Is it time to shut down the OC Board of Education?

Posted by Thomas Gordon on May 30, 2012

20120530-123612.jpg

Have you ever stopped to think about all the redundancy in the educational system?

US Department of Education, California Department of Education, Orange County Board of Education and 28 local school districts/Boards just in Orange County alone.

Is it all really necessary?

Does it really help the children?

With all the talk about local control, charter schools and voucher programs, what if we dissolved the OC Board of Education and distributed their 214 Million annual budget among the 28 local school districts in Orange County?

Thoughts?

2012 Primary Election Predictions: Race For Judge

Posted by Honest Abe on May 30, 2012

One of our readers last week mentioned that I never made any prediction in the race for Orange County Judge between Eugene Jizhak and Deborah Chuang. Better late than never.

The candidates include:

Deborah Chuang– She is currently the incumbent in this race and had the misfortune of being in Office 1. The reason I say misfortune is because this is likely why her opponent chose to run here as opposed to in one of the other races. Prior to being a Judge in 2009 she was a Deputy Attorney General for 12 years after earning her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law.

Eugene Jizhak– He earned his J.D. from Newport University School of Law before becoming a general practice attorney. He has appeared on a lot of slate mailers that I have seen but does not appear to be running any direct mail pieces. According to his profile on slate mailers he appears to oppose the early release of “Insane Maniacs” which might be one of my favorite lines from this election.

The factors at play- In these races the most important factor is incumbency. Running in a race where all of Orange County votes you need a strong ballot statement (Jizhak did not get one), an open seat (Chuang is the incumbent), and a very strong campaign (Neither is campaigning very hard).

Looking at all the factors at play in this district I believe that the winning candidate will be:

Deborah Chuang

Tuesday’s Most Important Election

Posted by Chris Nguyen on May 30, 2012

Wisconsin State CapitolSix days from now is Tuesday, June 5, Election Day.

What is the most important election that day?  Is it the CD-47 contest between Alan Lowenthal, Gary DeLong, and Steve Kuykendall?  Is it the Troy EdgarLong PhamTravis Allen fight in AD-72?  Is it AD-69’s Tom Daly vs. Michele Martinez vs. Jose Moreno vs. Julio Perez vs. Paco Barragan battle?  Is it the Third Supervisorial District brawl between Todd Spitzer and Deborah Pauly?

No, the most important election on Tuesday lies 2,000 miles northeast of Orange County.

In Wisconsin, June 5 is Election Day in the recall of Republican Governor Scott Walker.

Labor unions launched the recall after Walker gained the passage of legislation that restricted (but did not eliminate) collective bargaining (requiring annual re-certification of unions via annual member elections, limitations of collective bargaining to salaries rather than benefits) and increased public employee contributions to benefits and pensions, among other things.

This recall election marks a watershed moment in which the power of public employee unions faces off against those who seek to curb the legal prerogatives of those unions.

Wisconsin has an interesting recall procedure.  In California, the question of whether we should remove someone from office is one item on the ballot, with voters casting a “Yes” or “No” vote, and then a separate item on the ballot are all the recall replacement candidates, with the incumbent ineligible to run in the replacement vote.  In Wisconsin, there is no separate question of whether someone is removed: there is a single item in which candidates (including the incumbent) run against each other.  Effectively, when you initiate a recall in Wisconsin, you’re simply calling for an early election for the office, much like a parliamentary by-election or snap election; whereas in California, we vote whether or not to keep the incumbent and separately vote on a replacement.

There was a recall primary on May 8, with Walker winning 97% of the votes in the Republican primary and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett winning 58% of the votes in the Democratic primary (this is a rematch of the 2010 election, as Walker defeated Barrett in that election); the recall general election is this coming Tuesday, June 5.

Both the Real Clear Politics average of polls and the Huffington Post average of polls show Walker leading Barrett by a few percentage points.

A Walker victory will embolden politicians across the country seeking to curb the power of labor unions while a Barrett victory will be a warning from the labor unions that politicians should be wary of trying to reduce the legal prerogatives of public employee unions and trying to reduce the benefits enjoyed by public employees.
