Gas prices doubled during Obama Presidency

Posted by Thomas Gordon on February 15, 2012

Barack Obama has hit the campaign trail telling Americans that the $40 social security payroll contribution suspension per paycheck will help the average family and boost the economy, yet that money won’t even begin to cover the surge in gas prices hitting a pump near you and will have to be nearly doubled if summer predictions of $5 gasoline come true.

Americans pay an average of $1,010 more a year for gas than they did on President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Day back in January 2009. The suspension in social security payroll contributions, which Americans already receive, is a maximum of $1,000. That means the suspension which Congress has agreed to extend, falls $10 short of paying the average American families gas bill even before they hit the grocery store.

Here’s the break down. When Barack Obama came into office, gas averaged about $1.84. Americans drive an average of 13,476 miles a year. And the current average American mpg is 22.4 gallons. That means drivers buy an average of 601 gallons of gas a year. Today, a gallon of regular averages $3.52, a three year difference of $1.68, meaning Americans are paying $1,010 more a year than in January 2009.

The average working family simply can’t afford four more years of Barack Obama.

Obama and I Actually Agree on Something

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on February 9, 2012

It is no secret that Obama is a closet conservative when it comes to education policy and he showed his true colors when he allowed 10 states a waiver from the No Child Left Behind law passed by President George W. Bush. The most disappointing thing to me was that California was not on the list of 10 states. The list includes:

Colorado
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Kentucky
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New Jersey
Oklahoma
Tennessee

This bill when written was a “Frankenstein’s Monster” created by both George W. Bush and Ted Kennedy. It had the best of intentions, but failed miserably and it is now time to repeal it in phases. Hopefully California can get rid of this thing in the near future.

Santorum Has a Big Night

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on February 8, 2012

Rick Santorum shocked the world last night and this blogger as well with his victories in both Minnesota and Colorado. Please note that I am not counting Missouri intentionally as it was nothing but a glorified poll. This win puts Santorum ahead of Gingrich in the overall delegate count, although Romney still has a fairly substantial lead over both of them. Ron Paul is not even a factor anymore with his small amount of delegates. The Race stands as follows in terms of number of delegates after the latest round of elections:

Romney 87
Santorum 35
Gingrich 32
Paul 13

What is most amazing to me is that Rick Santorum was on the brink of possibly dropping out after a poor showing in Nevada. He now has a new life to his campaign while Gingrich is left reeling.

With Romney still in a  substantial lead this is not a great position for Santorum to be in despite the good night. Arizona and Michigan are up next on Tuesday (unless you count Maine who will finish their week-long caucus on Saturday) and I expect Romney to win both, but then again I thought the same ting about Colorado as well.

Needless to say this primary will likely run a little bit longer than we all initially expected.

Election Day Again: Fatigue is Starting to Set in

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on February 7, 2012

Is it just me or is anybody else starting to get sick of these Republican primaries? Today is yet another election day in Colorado and Minnesota.

Colorado- Romney looks like he is going to run away with this one and it should not come as a huge surprise. What does surprise me though is that Santorum appears to be running 2nd in the polls, with Gingrich and Paul about the same. 36 delegates are at stake in this election in a closed non-binding caucus.

Minnesota- Santorum and Romney are polling extremely close to each other for the lead, but Gingrich and Paul are not that far behind. This one will definitely be the most fun to watch in what could end up being a big night for Romney if he wins both. 40 delegates are at stake in this non-binding open caucus.

Stay tuned for a recap tonight of the results.

Time to show Feinstein the door

Posted by Thomas Gordon on February 6, 2012

Why would someone 78 years old seek re-election to an office that she would hold until she reached 84 years of age?

Good question, but it couldn’t be for the $ 174,000 annual salary she draws from the taxpayers.

Her personal wealth is reportedly between 50 and 150 million dollars all of which is held is blind trust separate from her husbands.

This year Mrs.Feinstein is drawing some challengers.

Al Ramirez, a conservative businessman from Santa Monica has jumped into the race as has Dan Hughes, a conservative businessman from Oceanside who has raised $ 100,000 in the last 30 days.

Elizabeth Emken from Danville is looking to challenge and has already lined up endorsements from OC Republican Assemblymembers Don Wagner and Jim Silva.

Why Democrats keep supporting Mrs Feinstein is a mystery. She co-sponsored PIPA and voted to support the Patriot Act. She’s been in politics since 1978, more than half her life. And with personal wealth in the 100 million range, she’s clearly one of the 1% they loathe.

So will she get rewarded with another 6 years?

Only time will tell…..

Trump Pulls a Rope-a-Dope and Endorses Romney

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on February 2, 2012

For whatever reason all the speculation was the Donald Trump was planning on endorsing Newt Gingrich today, but as many of you already know that did not happen. This morning Trump came out and endorsed Mitt Romney on the heels of the Nevada and Maine election this Saturday. This forther builds on the recent momentum that Mitt Romney has experienced after a big win in the Florida Primary on Tuesday.

If Mitt wins both Nevada and Maine which I expect that he will on Saturday then you can pretty much stick a fork in Newt because he is done. Some of you might argue that Trump is not that big a deal because a lot of people hate him, but I counter with the fact that he has a strong following as well.

Orly Taitz is Hurting Republicans

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on February 1, 2012

This post may not sit well with some people but I feel that it needs to be said. Orly Taitz is hurting the Republican brand with her crazy birther rants. Messaging is a key component to any race and that message needs to resonate with the voters. As a conservative Republican I oppose Barack Obama based on his liberal fiscal and social policies. By focusing on the issue of where he was born it focuses on the minutia and distracts voters from the real problems.

What bugs me even more is the fact that I think she is doing it simply to gain attention as she ran for Secretary of State in 2010 and luckily got crushed in the primary by Damon Dunn. Now she is back on the campaign trail running for U.S. Senate against a slew of other unknown Republicans to replace Dianne Feinstein. I am hoping that my fellow Republicans do not encourage this behavior and will reject her at the polls again.

Romney Blows Out Gingrich

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on January 31, 2012

The results were not even close in this one. I am not surprised by Romney winning but I am amazed by the margin of victory, as he is almost at 50% of the  overall vote. With this result I don’t know that it will be much longer for this primary to be contested. This was a big win with the number of delegates at stake and a huge momentum boost for the Romney campaign.

On to Nevada where I think that Romney will win again on Saturday.

Florida poll contest

Posted by Thomas Gordon on January 31, 2012

20120131-202908.jpg

Polls are now open in Florida in what could be the turning point of the 2012 election season.

Back in 2007 McCain beat Romney 36 percent to 31 percent and it pretty much sealed the deal for McCain.

Can Romney energize South Florida and Hispanic voters and secure a victory this evening?

Here’s what you’ve got to do.

Tell us the first, second and third place finishers in today’s Florida election and include the percentages of the vote for each.

Whoever gets closest gets his or her choice of an Amazon, ITunes or Best Buy gift card compliments of OC Political.

Florida Election Day

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on January 31, 2012

This is a big day for Republican politics with the Florida Primary taking place today. Mitt Romney looks like he has surged at the right time in the polls, but anything can happen. My thoughts are that whoever win this one will be the nominee as momentum will be a big deal along with the vast number of Florida delegates.

Both candidate s have their flaws but I personally have serious issues with Newt Gingrich and his infidelity. As a Republican I felt that Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal was shameful in his actions and was a disgrace to the Presidency, I will not take it any easier on Gingrich because he is a Republican.

In fairness Romney has his issues on certain policies but I see him as the best option in a very lousy group of candidates.

Check back in with us for a recap and analysis of the results tonight.
