Club for Growth Honors Campbell with
Defender of Economic Freedom Award

Congressman John Campbell was 1 of 45 Members of Congress to earn award based on support for economic growth and freedom in Congress

Washington, D.C. – The Club for Growth, the nation’s leading free-market advocacy organization, announced that Campbell has earned the annual Defender of Economic Freedom award.  The award honors Members of Congress who have a strong, consistent voting record on economic growth issues. Campbell was one of 11 U.S. Senators and 34 U.S. Congressmen to receive the award this year.

“With his score of 90%, and a lifetime score of 90%, Congressman John Campbell has demonstrated that he is truly a defender of economic freedom,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “The Club for Growth values Members of Congress who vote based on principle for pro-growth policies that will restore America. Robert Hammond And Tom Daly Lead AD 69 Race

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on March 2, 2012

We here at OC Political got a hold of some polling results in the race for AD 69. It appears that Tom Daly and Robert Hammond are poling quite well in this district. Here are the results from the poll conducted by the Daly campaign:

2010 AD 69 Primary Preference
Tom Daly (D) 25%
Michele Martinez (D) 13%
Julio Perez (D) 4%
Francisco Barrigan (D) 5%
Robert Hammond (R) 25%
Undecided 28%

A survey conducted among voters in the new Assembly District 69, among those likely to participate in the June 2012 primary election, shows Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly with a significant lead over his Democratic competition.

In a simulated primary election race, Daly has a nearly 2 to 1 lead over his closest Democratic opponent. Only Robert Hammond, a Republican, has similar support. A Democrat will be favored to win the general election as the district has a nearly 2 to 1 Democratic registration advantage.

In the ballot test, Daly receives 25% of the vote, while Michele Martinez receives 13%, Julio Perez receives 4%, Francisco Barragan receives 5%, and Robert Hammond receives 25%.

Daly is the only Democratic candidate who receives notable support among all parties.

In a simulated race, Daly receives 30% of Democrats, 18% of Republicans and 30% of Independents. Martinez receives 21% of Democrats, 1% of Republicans and 17% of Independents while Perez receives 7% of Democrats, 3% of Independents and no Republican support.

And when voters hear more about the background, experience, qualifications and accomplishments of Daly, they react very positively. Daly’s initial positive sentiment of 35% moves to 80% after voters hear a short paragraph providing these basic facts.

As the campaign commences and voters begin to focus on the candidates for State Assembly, this survey shows that Daly, with his experience as the Orange County Clerk-Recorder and as former Mayor of Anaheim, is in a strong position to win this contest.

What’s the one thing……

Posted by Brenda Higgins on March 2, 2012

Campaign season is in full swing and as I read through the local, state and federal news, try to see how each candidate is faring, try to understand the budding controversies, and grapple with the issues, I find myself frustrated that it has become so complicated. As a candidate in 2010, I encountered, repeatedly, people who were interested in the process, who cared, but didn’t understand the complexity of the issues. .

In the kaleidoscope of coverage and available information, a voter can read critiques of candidates hair and apparel, their wife’s hair and apparel, where they ate for lunch and who they ate it with. We have been obsessed and side tracked with Tax Returns and Birth Certificates, with newsletters and associations, with relatives of the candidate, whether there are gay or alcoholic relatives, and how many times they’ve been married. We occasionally get some good coverage and interest in the voting record of incumbents, but even that substantive information, I keep wondering if the average voter gets it.

As we sort through and nit pick our favorite issues, the unfortunate result is that we on the right continue to appear to ourselves and others as divided and not cohesive or unified. I would love to see a candidate, any candidate, for any office, deal with the issues by sticking to a basic tenet of conservative politics, rather than taking a position on every popular public issue, even ones that may never come before them. Because, let’s face it, you don’t have to spend much time in Sacramento to realize why they call it the sausage factory. Even in the Local elections, I hear the same lament from electeds, it is just not as easy as it looks. Idealism dies an abrupt death right after the swearing in ceremony. Compromises will be made. Campaign promises will be broken. Many things, especially at the local level, are not feasible or legal even if they were the cornerstone promises and guarantees during the campaign. The hurdles are significant, and often unanticipated by the most well meaning candidates. Then of course, we skewer them in their race for reelections for not sticking to the overly specific promises they made during the campaign.

So, what if. What if, we as a party looked at our candidates, rather than a host of litmus tests on how they will vote on this or that….what if, we ask them…..WILL YOU GROW GOVERNMENT? Will you fight with everything in your being to curtail the runaway growth of government? …..OR will you allow government to grow in the limited exceptions, when it comes to your favorite issues or pet projects?

This should be our “one thing”, limiting, and/or reducing the size of government, at every level. That should be the battle cry of the right, of the Republican party. We are the only ones who will do it. If we get mired in debates over social issues, and continue beating up candidates on the hypothetical questions related to scenarios that may never happen, we lose a lot of steam in the lack of focus and simplicity. Gosh, it starts to sound like ….”tolerance”, ouch.

If we don’t establish a clearer and more devoted commitment to this principle, our government at all levels will continue to grow at unprecedented and unsustainable rates. Limiting the size of government, decreasing the size of government, curtailing the growth of government. Call it what you will, but this one principle applies to every issue. I will be voting for those candidates whose agenda is to stick with this one simple and vital principle.

OC Board Of Supervisors Votes Down Term Limits Amendment

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on March 1, 2012

In a 2-3 vote on Tuesday the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted down a term limits amendment that would have changed the consecutive terms that a candidate was allowed to serve in the OC Board of Supes from 2 terms to 3 terms. The amendment would have been placed before the voters and likely would have passed in my opinion based on the way that it was worded.

The amendment would have also changed the current procedure where a Supervisor can serve 2 consecutive terms sit-out a term and then run again. In my opinion this was not enough to make this worth passing as I do not see a need to give Supervisors an extra term.

My understanding is that Flash Report author Jon Fleischman spoke at the meeting and came out against the proposal. Apparently based on the way the proposal was worded it appears that it may have reset the clock on terms, which potentially could have allowed John Moorlach to serve a total of 5 terms if that indeed turned out to be true.

The votes in favor of the proposal were John Moorlach and Shawn Nelson. In opposition to the proposal were Janet Nguyen, Bill Campbell, and Pat Bates.

More on term limits tomorrow…

Andrew Breitbart was best known for exposing New York Representative Anthony Weiner for posting risqué photos to Twitter as well as blowing wide open the ACORN malfeasance scandal.

Just weeks ago Andrew Breitbart promised to expose President Obama with photos from his college days.

OCEA Back In Anaheim Mailboxes

Posted by Former Blogger Chris Emami on March 1, 2012

Things are really starting to get heated in Anaheim in a war between OCEA and the Anaheim Chamber of commerce over a City Council vote to give a tax break to a developer looking to build a hotel at the Anaheim Garden Walk.

We first covered the story with a post that I made here talking about what had been taking place prior to us launching the blog.

Chris Nguyen then had a blog post about a robocall that OCEA put out encouraging Anaheim residents to show up to a town hall meeting being organized by KABC 7. I followed up later that day with our first post of a mail piece that went out attacking the three Councilmembers.

I then posted about the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce then fired back at OCEA with a mail piece that supported the three Councilmembers.

Finally Chris Nguyen posted another robocall from OCEA that went out to Anaheim residents urging them to show up at the Anaheim City Council meeting that night.

Now OCEA is back in the mail with another mail piece attacking Harry Sidhu, Kris Murray, and Gail Eastman.
