Taxin Troy Edgar

Posted by OC Insider on June 2, 2012

Today, I received another great mail piece from Travis Allen for Assembly.   This is the first hit piece that I received from Travis and I have to say it is probably the best hit piece have seen this cycle.

The image of Taxin Troy Edgar is definitely going to stick in my mind.  I am attaching a scan of the piece to this post for people to check out.

Will this mail piece be enough to make the race competitive?  I am not sure, but I a bet a lot of voters will have a picture of Taxin Troy Edgar in their heads when they vote on Tuesday.

Also, it looks like Travis has found one of Troy’s real weaknesses.  Edgar’s horrible voting record on taxes and his refusal to sign the No New Tax Pledge might hunt him on Tuesday.

Here is a LINK to a Press Release that OC-Breeze posted about Edgar’s refusal to sign the No New Tax Pledge.

Gas prices doubled during Obama Presidency

Posted by Thomas Gordon on February 15, 2012

Barack Obama has hit the campaign trail telling Americans that the $40 social security payroll contribution suspension per paycheck will help the average family and boost the economy, yet that money won’t even begin to cover the surge in gas prices hitting a pump near you and will have to be nearly doubled if summer predictions of $5 gasoline come true.

Americans pay an average of $1,010 more a year for gas than they did on President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Day back in January 2009. The suspension in social security payroll contributions, which Americans already receive, is a maximum of $1,000. That means the suspension which Congress has agreed to extend, falls $10 short of paying the average American families gas bill even before they hit the grocery store.

Here’s the break down. When Barack Obama came into office, gas averaged about $1.84. Americans drive an average of 13,476 miles a year. And the current average American mpg is 22.4 gallons. That means drivers buy an average of 601 gallons of gas a year. Today, a gallon of regular averages $3.52, a three year difference of $1.68, meaning Americans are paying $1,010 more a year than in January 2009.

The average working family simply can’t afford four more years of Barack Obama.

Medical Marijuana advocates seek ballot measure in Santa Ana

Posted by Thomas Gordon on February 8, 2012

A group called the Committee to Support Medical Marijuana Ballot Initiative pulled paperwork from the Santa Ana City Clerk to begin the process of gatherings the roughly 5000 signatures needed to qualify it for the November ballot.

The initiative would allow medical marijuana dispensaries to operate under strict guidelines such as limiting hours from 9 am to 9 pm, restricting patients to 21 years of age and older, forbid loitering and limit dispensaries no closer than 600 feet from a school or park. It would also limit the number of dispensaries in Santa Ana to no less than 20, possibly more.

Medical Marijuana dispensaries were outlawed in Santa Ana in 2007 but according to Santa Ana Police no fewer than 62 operate illegally.

In an effort to sweeten the pot the backers of the measure to legalize have proposed an additional 2% sales tax on medical marijuana to benefit the cities depleted general fund.

In 1996 California voters passed Prop 215 which legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes so long as it was through community collectives.

Given Santa Ana’s track record I’m curious to see how this will all play out…..
