Ex Supporters of Former Orange County Public Administrator/Public Guardian John Williams Voice Strong Opposition to his Bid to Return to Public Office

Key Orange County Leaders Unite in Support of Tim Jemal for South Orange County Community College Trustee

Mission Viejo, California – October 25, 2012 – Ex-supporters of former Orange County Public Administrator/Public Guardian John Williams voiced strong opposition to his bid to return to public office as a Trustee for the South Orange County Community College District. Several elected officials and community leaders warned voters that Mr. Williams has breached the public trust and should not be serving in public office. The elected officials and community leaders voiced support for Tim Jemal to serve as the next Trustee for the South Orange County Community College District.

“John Williams is unfit to serve again in public office,” said Orange County Supervisor-elect and former Assistant District Attorney Todd Spitzer.  “He has repeatedly engaged in public corruption which was documented in two blistering Grand Jury reports.  He was fired by the Orange County Board of Supervisors and then sued the County when he tried to break his deal to leave the County.  Enough is enough.  Do not vote for John Williams.”

“My central priority from the day I announced my candidacy for Trustee is to ensure our precious tax dollars provide world-class education at our Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges and the Advanced Technology and Education Park (ATEP),” said Tim Jemal. “I am very pleased that my candidacy has received substantial support from a broad spectrum of the South Orange County Community. My central priority is to improve college and career readiness by putting taxpayer dollars in the classroom.”

“The presence of John Williams on the Board of Trustee will be a major setback to our community colleges and a lingering distraction to the important work that needs to get done,” said Don Wagner, State Assemblyman and Former Trustee Board President. “Tim Jemal will breathe new life into our community colleges by focusing on jobs and economic development.”

“John Williams has breached the public trust by mismanaging taxpayer resources and will be ineffective in addressing the major challenges our community colleges face over the next decade,” said Mission Viejo Mayor Frank Ury. “Tim Jemal has a proven record of using the innovation of the private sector to advance education in our public schools and colleges. This is precisely the kind of leadership our community colleges need.”

“I previously supported John Williams with the belief he would be an honest leader for the community college district,” said Gila Jones, Housing Commissioner, City of San Juan Capistrano. “I was wrong. Tim Jemal will engage all stakeholders and make decisions based on the based on the best interests of the college district.”
